Our leading technicians specialise in the digitisation of historical documents and media. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PARCHMENT, VELLUM AND PAPER
Parchment is a general term for animal skin which has been prepared for writing or printing. For centuries parchment has been used, generally from calf, goat or sheep skin.
The term Vellum refers to a parchment made from calf skin. Parchment refers generally to goat or sheep skin. Traditionally used instead of paper for important documents such as religious text, public laws, indentures and land records.
