H.264 VIDEO TAPE CONVERSIONS IN OXFORDSHIRE UK

Oxford Duplication Centre hold an established 10 years of experience in the fields of video tape conversion. Highly recommended in Oxfordshire and surrounding areas by leading corporate companies incuding B4 Business, Blenheim Palace, Educational Facilities and many 1000's of private clients.

H.264 is the most widely used codec on earth, even surpassing broadcast MPEG-2, simply due to the power of the internet. It is used by Youtube, and every other video provider of note. It is also the codec that drives Blu-ray. Many broadcast pipelines and distribution channels have adopted H.264 (and MPEG-4 Part 2) as well.

HIGH QUALITY ARCHIVING AND PRESERVATION OF YOUR VIDEO TAPES

We offer video tape digitising, archiving and preservation for individuals, institutions and archives in Oxfordshire and the UK. Working with video has its many complications. Our computers and conversion systems are robust and perfectly able to handle large data throughput. We are experienced in handling fragile and deteriorating videos and can support the baking of tapes.

H.264/MPEG4-AVC is the latest video coding standard of the ITU-T video coding experts group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC moving picture experts group (MPEG). H.264/MPEG4-AVC has recently become the most widely accepted video coding standard since the deployment of MPEG2 at the dawn of digital television, and it may soon overtake MPEG2 in common use. It covers all common video applications ranging from mobile services and videoconferencing to IPTV, HDTV, and HD video storage.

THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING VIDEO TAPE AND FORMATS

  • Acetate (1950s-1970s): tape base that deteriorates over time by drying out. The tape will be very brittle and may have a distinct smell of vinegar; the breakdown of the acetate is often referred to as vinegar syndrome.
  • PVC (1950s-early 1970s): inexpensive plastic tape base that was not widely used.
  • Polyester (early 1950s-present): also referred to as Mylar or PET. Chemically stable tape base that became the norm for videotape manufacturing by the 1970s.
